KPMG Recruitment Test Format for Undergraduates

Although, the KPMG recruitment process explained herein is tailored for undergraduates, however, you can gain insight into KPMG as a graduate wanting to get into KPMG via other routes.

The KPMG recruitment process for undergraduates usually takes two folds; online essay writing and a telephone interview. The essay exercise would be conducted over email, so you do not have to worry about going to KPMG Lagos office to take the test.

The essay would involve you being sent an email containing the essay topic and instructions on what you should do. You will be given one hour to complete the essay and submit. If you submit an hour and one minute late, you would be disqualified. So it is important you have a good computer and a stable internet connection. It will take less than a week to get the result of the test.

If you are successful, you would be given a form to fill and send back to them. In the form, you would choose the division you’re interested in, duration of your stay with them, and a time that is convenient for you to have a telephone interview.  The telephone interview would involve them calling you at a time you would choose as convenient. You would be asked series of questions which if you provide satisfactory answers to these questions, you would be successful.

I shall give details of these questions in this article. After this stage, you would be benchmarked against other successful candidates.

In my experience, the easiest way to pass the test is to be adequately prepared. When I wrote my test, I was watching the replay of the Monday’s night RAW (WWE). However, I could only do that because I was adequately prepared, and I was very fast with typing. To prepare for the test, the following tips would be helpful;

  • Have all your documents ready. The essay would usually be submitted alongside your WAEC results, Birth certificate, transcript, etc. Scanned them and attach them to an email, save it in the draft folder of your email account. When it’s time to send in your essay, you can easily include your essay to the already scanned and saved document as an attachment and send to KPMG. This would save you a lot of time and avoid cases of internet connection failure.
  • Practice sample essay writing. A standard essay should have an introduction, the body of the essay containing two to four paragraphs explaining your points, and a conclusion.
  • To make it easier for you, have a structure you can use for writing your essays which you can easily adapt any topic to. If you need sample essays that have been written for the KPMG undergraduate internship and the candidates were successful, drop a message in the comment box and the essays would be sent to your email address.
  • If you are slow in typing, get someone who can type very fast close to you. Since the duration of the test is one hour, I believe forty minutes should be enough to write down the essay probably on paper, and twenty minutes can be used to type it. During my time, I typed straight into the computer without writing it down.
  • Before submitting, read your essay out loud to the hearing of a friend, you could spot an error.
  • Have sample written essays on the topics already mentioned above. If you are lucky, you could get a similar topic.
  • Be relaxed, and don’t panic, it is a very simple exercise.
