After reading this post you might not need to rewrite the dreaded ordinary level exams (WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB) because of mathematics. No doubt, maths is not a walk in the park for everyone. It can be daunting to see friends proving the almighty formula whereas you can hardly solve a linear equation. It doesn’t mean you are dull, we are not all gifted with mathematics. Reading this post could mean that you didn’t have a credit in maths or you know a friend who doesn’t have a credit in maths? Not surprising, you could be a maths guru and just be reading this post for the sake of education.

Due to the incessant emails, I get from my readers, I have made an extensive research on courses that can be studied without getting up to a credit in maths at the O level exams. Therefore, I will be sharing courses you can get admission to study after scoring D7, E8 or even F9 in mathematics. Though, you will be required to meet other requirements to be given admission.

Fifteen (15) Courses That Do Not Require Mathematics

  1. Religious Studies

To study religious studies in most tertiary institutions, you only need a pass in mathematics. So don’t worry if you didn’t pass maths in your ordinary level exams.

O level Subject Requirements for Religious studies: A pass in mathematics, English Language, Religious Studies (IRK or CRK), and any other two arts or social science subjects. .

  1. Political Science

O level Subject Requirements for Political Science: A pass in mathematics, English Language, Government, and any other two arts or social science subjects.

  1. History and International Relations

O level Subject Requirements for History and International Relations: A pass in mathematics, English Language, Government, and any other two arts or social science subjects.

  1. Mass Communication

O level Subject Requirements for Mass Communication: A pass in maths, English Language, Literature in English, Government, and any other arts or social science subjects.

  1. Criminology and Peace Studies

O level Subject Requirements for Criminology and Peace Studies: A pass in mathematics, English Language, Economics or Government, and any other two arts or social science subjects.

  1. Language

To study languages such as Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and other major languages you don’t need to have a credit in mathematics, a pass would suffice.

  1. Linguistics

O level Subject Requirements for Linguistics: A pass in maths, English Language, any other language course apart from English, and any other three arts subjects.

 

  1. Sociology

  1. Philosophy

O level Subject Requirements for Philosophy: A pass in mathematics, English, one Arts subject, and any two other subjects.

  1. Theatre Arts

O level Subject Requirements for Theatre Arts: A pass in maths, English Language, Literature in English, and any other two arts subjects.

  1. Fisheries and Aquaculture

O level Subject Requirements for Fisheries and Aquaculture: A pass in mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, and any other science subjects.

  1. Geography

O level Subject Requirements for Geography: A pass in mathematics, English Language, Geography, and any other two arts, social science or science subjects.

  1. Physical and Health Education

O level Subject Requirements for Physical and Health Education: English Language, and any other four related three arts, social science or science subjects.

  1. Guidance and Counseling

O level Subject Requirements for Guidance and Counseling:  English Language, and any other related four arts, social science or science subjects.

  1. Law

O level Subject Requirements for Law: A pass in maths, English Language, Literature in English, and any other three arts subjects.

Apart from the partial science courses i listed above. There are no really science courses that can be studied without mathematics.

Are you fortunate to have a credit in mathematics, but you don’t like maths? It is better you study courses that demands less applicability in mathematics.

This post is the results of my research into some courses you can study in Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education without a credit in mathematics. However, you might need to do further research on schools that allow you study these courses with a pass in maths. This is because there are some institutions that wouldn’t still let you study some of the above courses without a credit in mathematics.
